Esteban Gutiérrez and Sergio 'Checo' Pérez are already focusing on the Mexican Grand Prix to be held next Sunday.

Sergio Pérez finishes in 7th place in the championship

Mexican driver Sergio Pérez will arrive at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in 7th place in the drivers' championship, behind the Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari drivers, after surpassing Williams' Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas in qualifying, earning four points with an 8th place finish in the United States Grand Prix.

Checo fought his way from behind

Checo had to fight his way from behind in Austin. In the first lap, he was involved in an incident with Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) that sent him to the back of the grid, in 16th position. But he recovered, first overtaking the Russian, then his compatriot Esteban Gutiérrez and Romain Grosjean, to get close to the Top 10, which he reached on lap 29, finishing 9th, and eventually earning more points.

"Eighth was the best we could do, given the race circumstances. Kvyat arrived out of control at Turn 11 and practically ruined our Grand Prix. I had nowhere to go and he hit me from behind, causing significant damage to the rear of the car, which resulted in a loss of grip. It was important to reach the end of the race, and we were still able to rescue four points, so it's a good result."

Taking advantage of race circumstances

The Mexican driver took advantage of race circumstances, such as Max Verstappen's or Kimi Räikkönen's retirement, to score crucial points in the battle that Force India is having with Williams for 4th place in the constructors' championship this season.

"The important thing is always being there. It was a race with many incidents, and the important thing was to reach the end and get as much as possible, which has been the case throughout the season, and that's why we are where we are in the championship today," he explained.

Mexican Grand Prix, the next stop

After crossing the finish line in Austin, the Mexican Grand Prix became the next stop of Formula One, so the Mexican driver is already counting the hours to race again at the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit.

"I'm really looking forward to going home, in the best moment of my career, with my best season, with the desire to bring joy to my people, although I also thank the compatriots who were in Austin," he affirmed.

Esteban Gutiérrez's unfortunate race

Esteban Gutiérrez, from Haas, did not have the same luck. After the start, he was in 10th place, but he kept losing positions until he was 13th. On lap 18, he went off at Turn 11, and although he managed to reach the pits, he retired from the race, ending any possibility of getting his first point of the year.

"It was a disappointing race. The first pit stop was good, and we managed to be in the Top 10, but a brake issue ended our race. It's not what I expected to happen, but we need to work hard because the next stop is Mexico," he said.
