The National Laboratory for Prevention and Control of Doping carried out a "correct" procedure for the samples collected during the Pan American Senior Fencing Championship in Panama by the Regional Anti-Doping Association of Central America. It was from this sampling that the adverse analytical result of Mexican athlete Paola Pliego was derived.

"Regarding the analysis conducted by the National Laboratory for Prevention and Control of Doping, the National Anti-Doping Committee reiterates that they were carried out in accordance with the protocol defined by WADA, both in their processes and in the study of substances instructed by the international body to be analyzed," the entity communicated.

The athlete from Queretaro missed the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio after testing positive for the substance Modafinil. However, she will announce in a press conference on Thursday that she has been exonerated of this offense by the International Fencing Federation.

However, the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency)'s Scientific Committee will issue the final resolution since, "based on the results and in response to an athlete's request, the FIE is carrying out other procedures, which are currently ongoing."
