Unai Emery

Unai Emery gave an interview in his homeland, to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, in which he talked about his experience and successes as a coach at the Sánchez Pizjuán: "I am very well in Seville and with Sevilla. I am very grateful because the club gives me all the facilities and I am very happy with the Sevillistas. I am delighted with the respect they have for my work and that of those around me."

Staying in Nervión

The Basque coach explained why he decided to stay in Nervión this summer despite significant offers: "The ability to grow that I or my environment may have, in this case Sevilla, is the most important thing. We have grown, we have taken steps year after year and, although the bar is getting higher and higher, that is also a challenge. We have, for example, the final of the Supercopa de Europa against Barcelona. The fact that we have reached the Champions League gives you a leap in demand that I also want to take on. Where I am better is in Sevilla, which is where I truly believe there are possibilities to continue doing important things."

"Levels of greatness are measured in many ways and, for me, the qualitative leap we have taken is in Sevilla. We have managed to qualify to compete in the Champions League and reach a zone of comfort or greatness. Maintaining this level is not easy, but we are there and I value that. We have earned it with merit. All of that conveys greatness to us," says the Hondarribia native.

The highest continental competition inspires Emery: "The Champions gives us a lot of excitement. I arrived at Sevilla saying that I would like to play the Champions League here. There have been moments when it seemed far away, but in these two and a half years we have grown to go in that direction. I have participated in three editions of the Champions League, two with Valencia and one with Spartak Moscow, and it is very exciting. Doing well in both the league and the Champions League is difficult and that is our challenge. We have achieved it and now we want to work hard, with all the excitement, motivation, and the maximum commitment to defend Sevilla in Europe."
