Changes in the Copa Libertadores de América
Starting from 2017, the Copa Libertadores de América will be played from February to November. Additionally, the number of teams will increase from 38 to 42, as announced by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
Objective of the Changes
These schedule changes aim to "harmonize competition calendars with each country's local tournaments", according to the announcement.
Modifications in the Copa Sudamericana
It was also reported that the 10 teams eliminated in the group stage will have the opportunity to participate in the Copa Sudamericana, which will also change its schedule to take place from June to December.
Direct Entry to the Copa Libertadores
The champions of each competition will secure a direct entry to the next edition of the Copa Libertadores de América.
Mexican Teams to Host Second Leg of the Final
A few days ago, Conmebol announced that Mexican teams will now be able to host the second leg of the Libertadores final, which was not previously allowed.
