Options for the América's Technical Director Position

With the departure of Ignacio Ambriz as the technical director of América, some options are being considered to take over the Azulcrema bench.

Here are some of the most talked-about rumors, along with their qualities and disadvantages.

Ricardo Antonio Lavolpe

The Argentine already has a history as a strategist for América, and it's not the most pleasant one. Lavolpe arrived at América largely because of his achievements at Atlante, after achieving promotion in the 1991-92 season and winning the title in the 1992-93 season, presenting these credentials to take charge of the club.

However, Ricardo's time at the helm of the Águilas was very short, just three games, which ended in a scandalous 5-0 defeat against Chivas.

The prestige of the Argentine coach is unquestionable, especially due to his time at Atlante and the National Team, however, when coaching the so-called 'Big' teams, he has not been able to achieve the best results.

In 2014, he took over as the coach of Guadalajara, with whom he was during the Clausura tournament of that year, where he only achieved 21 points and finished in fifteenth place overall, in addition to being involved in the scandal of the famous 'Podologa'.

Marcelo Bielsa

Like Lavolpe, another Argentine coach who has already had a stint at América is Marcelo 'El Loco' Bielsa, who was in this position during the 1995-96 season, just one tournament before Lavolpe's arrival, who ended up being his natural replacement.

Bielsa, at América, directed a total of 40 games with a 30% effectiveness, since he only won 12 games on the Azulcrema bench, falling below the originally set expectations.

Now, 21 years after his time at Coapa, the 'Loco' is considered as a possibility among the options of coaches to replace Ambriz, after having served as a strategist for Argentina, having passed through Spain, for his outstanding role with the Chilean National Team and more recently with a very discreet stint at Olympique de Marseille, taking into account his last 'craziness', after leaving Lazio a few days before the start of the season in Italian Calcio.

Javier Aguirre

Someone who also has a chance to become the coach at América is Javier Aguirre, a person who has a deep Americanist past as a player since he was part of that historic América team in the 80s.

El Vasco has experience with various Mexican soccer clubs and places like Spain, where Osasuna and Atlético de Madrid stand out, where - by the way - he shared the bench with Ignacio Ambriz, who was his assistant, also his two World Cups leading the Mexican National Team, along with his time in Saudi Arabia and the Japanese National Team.

However, Aguirre is still marked by the highly publicized case of match-fixing during the 2010-2011 season, when he was the coach of Zaragoza, in addition to the controversial decisions he made in the 2002 and 2010 World Cups with the National Team.

With all this, Aguirre is also considered as a possibility to replace his former assistant on the América bench.

Raúl Gutiérrez

Currently, 'Potro' Gutiérrez remains as the coach of the Mexican youth teams, however, his arrival at América could be not too far away.

Still lacking true club-level experience, Gutiérrez is seen as a possibility, but it should be taken into account that this could weigh on him in a hypothetical leadership position of a team under the pressure of América.

Gutiérrez, despite this, knows the Americanist ideology, since as a player, he was at Águilas for seven years, between 1994 and 2001.
