Williams' hopes for 23rd Grand Slam title dashed by Pliskova
Tennis player Serena Williams, the top seed, said goodbye to her chance of winning her 23rd Grand Slam title this season after falling in the semifinals of the US Open to Czech player Karolina Pliskova (10).
Both players were the protagonists of an exciting contest on the Arthur Ashe stadium court, although it was Pliskova who came out more inspired to become the executioner of the world's best player after two sets of 6-2 and 7-6 (7/5).
From the first set, the Czech player did not let herself be consumed by nerves and the push from the local crowd, and instead took the lead thanks to four aces and 10 winners.
In the second set, the match was leveled and Williams was close to completing a comeback on the scoreboard, however luck was not on her side and she was tied 6-6, reaching the match point.
From then on, Pliskova did not hesitate for a single second about her ability and forced Serena to make mistakes in her last two serves, whose errors resulted in her elimination from the fourth "Grand Slam" event of the season after an hour and 25 minutes of play.
Following this result, the Czech player became the nightmare of the Williams sisters on New York soil, after also defeating Venus in the fourth round of the tournament.
On the other hand, Serena Williams will have to pack her bags and rethink her strategies for her next event, as she will be the former number one in the rankings after the arrival of German player Angelique Kerber (2) to the semifinals of the US Open.
