KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A team’s preparation before a game can be essential to victory, and it only becomes more important during the playoffs.
The Kansas City Royals pregame meal on Wednesday was prepared by chefs at Kauffman – an advantage of being the home team.
The New York Yankees pregame meal for Game 3 of the ALDS was prepared by Cascone’s – an Italian Restaurant that has been located on North Oak Trafficway for 70 years.
Brothers, Jimmy and Frank Cascone said this is actually the second time they have served the Yankees food. The first was when the Yankees played the Royals back in June.
“I thought it was a little carb-heavy – it was a lot of pastas, potatoes and such,” Jimmy Cascone said. “They were very open and they let me kind of freewheel it, but they had specifics they wanted – one of (their) specifics was kind of crazy – it was green beans.”
Cascone’s has been a staple restaurant in Kansas City for a long time and has catered to other professional teams from out of town, and local star athletes, too.

It’s perhaps the midwestern kindness that the good food is served with that keeps bringing teams like the Yankees back.
“The biggest compliment I got the first time, and he reiterated this time was he said, ‘Jimmy, thank you first and foremost for your hospitality towards me,’” Jimmy Cascone said. “When he contacted me the second time he turned around and he said your hospitality in June made you my first choice when we knew we were coming to Kansas City, so that says a lot.”
Even though Cascone’s is happy to cater to the Yankees, they still believe the Royals can pull it out – especially with Vinnie Pasquantino in the lineup.
“There you go, you read my mind on that one, but Bobby Witt Jr., you know you can’t go wrong with him,” Jimmy Cascone said. “I’m here for everybody – I’m especially here for the home teams.”
