The Washington Commanders announced two roster moves before tomorrow’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. They ruled out three players due to injury, and they’ve elevated two players from the practice squad to provide depth at those positions. DE Clelin Ferrell(knee) and RB Austin Ekeler(concussion) were ruled out early in the week and didn’t travel with the team. WR Jamison Crowder was a later addition to Wednesday’s injury report, and is out with a calf injury. DE Andre Jones Jr. and RB Chris Rodriguez will both be available to back up their positions.
The loss of Ekeler affects the offense and special teams. Ekeler was the team’s primary kick returner, and Crowder had been returning punts. Rodriguez has been elevated and will back up Jeremy McNichol, and also play on special teams. Many people were expected UDFA rookie RB Michael Wiley to be elevated this week, but Washington opted for Rodriguez instead. Andre Jones Jr. was elevated from the practice squad, and played 9 snaps on defense. He’ll be up again with Ferrell missing his second straight game due to a knee injury that has been affecting him since the preseason.
