Alejandro Valverde said that, despite the time lost by himself and his team leader, Colombian Nairo Quintana, in the second stage of the Tour de France, they still have chances in the overall classification.
"It has been a very complicated day because of the weather, a lot of tension. The important thing is that we haven't crashed. As for the time differences, this is just the beginning," Valverde said. He regretted that Quintana got caught behind due to a crash. "He got caught by the wind, it started raining and in the end, the front group got away and there was nothing to do. But we are fine and Nairo is fine," he said.
The Spanish rider acknowledged that tomorrow he can try something in the stage with the finish on the Muro de Huy, where he has already won the Fleche Wallonne in the past. "I came here for what I came for," said the cyclist, who finished fourth last year but in this edition will be helping Quintana.
