LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Jennifer Lozano is set to make history by climbing into the ring for her Olympic debut, a milestone that also marks Laredo’s first appearance in the Games. Her bout is scheduled for Thursday morning, August 1, at 8:30 local time.

Despite initial uncertainty over whether her supporters would be able to attend, last-minute fundraising efforts have successfully secured her family’s presence in Paris. Lozano expressed her gratitude for the community’s support.

“Trying to get that actual support to get those funds was very hard, but I’m just glad that last minute it was very possible,” Lozano said. “Everybody started buying, all the businesses started pitching in and coming into buying the shirts and donating to the GoFundMe and just donating personally. That meant a lot to me, so now my family’s here.”

The boxing match will be available exclusively on NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock. It will not be broadcast on NBC’s main channel. Several watch parties are planned across the city, but viewers will need Peacock to watch the fight live.

In the ongoing Games, the United States leads the medal tracker with 20 medals, ahead of France by four and Japan by eight. Japan, however, leads in gold medals with six, while France, China, Australia, and South Korea are tied with five each.
