PHILADELPHIA — There were probably thousands of Yankees fans cursing the very second Clay Holmes’ two-outs-in-the-ninth sweeper bounced past catcher Austin Wells and enabled Phillies pinch-hitter Johan Rojas to score the tying run with a head-first slide across the plate in Tuesday night’s thriller at Citizens Bank Park.
At that point, half of the fans probably were venting at Holmes for adding to his MLB lead in blown saves and the other half probably were cussing out Yankees general manager Brian Cashman for missing out on adding All-Star closer Tanner Scott, who went from the Marlins to the Padres a few hours earlier on trade-deadline day in the majors.
