Battlefield High School graduate Lauren Hoffman will represent the Philippines at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Hoffman qualified for the Olympic Games in the 400-meter hurdles. Hoffman is the second Prince William County high school graduate who will compete at the Paris Olympics. The other is Gar-Field graduate Jabez Reeves.
Hoffman qualified for the Olympics based on her world ranking (39th) in the hurdles. As a dual citizen, Hoffman is able to represent the Philippines because her mother Laura was born there.
After choosing to run for the Philippines in 2023, Hoffman has broken all-time records there in the 100 hurdles, the 400 hurdles and the indoor 400 hurdles. She ran in the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland earlier this year in the indoor 400-meter hurdles.
Hoffman was a standout at Duke University. She was a first-team, all-American at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter hurdles.
At the 2022 ACC Outdoor Meet, Hoffman was first in the 400-meter hurdles and a member of the first-place 400-meter relay team. Hoffman still holds the school record for the 400 hurdles (55.47).
After graduate school at Duke, Hoffman chose to stay in Durham and train with the Duke coaches while competing professionally. She ran in meets this season in Florida, Texas, Hong Kong, the Phillipines, Los Angeles, Canada and Poland.
At Battlefield, she was a member of the 2017 800-meter relay state champion. She was all-state in the 30-meters from 20-1 to 2-17 and in the 100-meter hurdles, the 500-neter run and the 55-meter hurdles from 2015-17.
