Chris Froome disappointed with performance in Tour de France time trial

British cyclist Chris Froome (Sky) finished 39th in the opening time trial of the Tour de France and expressed his disappointment, stating that "it's only the beginning." "It was quite tough despite the short distance. I'm happy to have started and to be at the same time as my rivals. I expected to do a bit better, but there were no differences among us," he said.

Froome believes that the seven seconds he lost to Nibali, the eight seconds ahead of Alberto Contador, and the 11 seconds ahead of Nairo Quintana "probably won't matter when the race reaches Paris in three weeks," he stated.

The winner of the 2013 Tour de France explained that his training has been focused on the mountains, "something very different from a short time trial," but he positively evaluated his first encounter with the competition.
