Blackburn Rovers face an anxious wait to see whether John Eustace will serve a touchline ban against Leicester City.

The Rovers head coach was sent off against Coventry City. Eustace was involved in a skirmish with Kasey Palmer, as he tried to retrieve the ball for a home throw-in.

There was a minor altercation and despite only booking the Coventry man, Eustace was sent to the stands and forced to watch from elsewhere in the ground. He was also unable to speak to the press post-match, as a result.

It's only the second time this season a Rovers head coach has been sent off. The same happened to Jon Dahl Tomasson away at Sheffield Wednesday in December after he complained about a foul in the build-up to the Owls' decisive second goal.

VERDICT: Rovers' Ewood Park flaws leave survival hopes in the balance

Tomasson was absent from the touchline at home to Leeds in the following fixture after being banned by The Football Association. If Eustace is also charged, a one-match ban is often triggered, though it will depend on the referee's written reasons.

According to FA rules, if Eustace is banned, it means he can only communicate to his bench via a mobile or a 'runner'. He won't be allowed on the touchline at any stage, including during the warm-ups.

Tomasson will be allowed in the dressing room and therefore he can speak with his players before and after.

"We will obviously speak to the powers that be," assistant head coach, Keith Downing, told the media.

"We'll see what happens. We will be there if John is there by our side and if he's not, we'll be well prepared and he will be around the place still.

"He is very influential, he's been very positive around the place, he's a very good leader. We will miss him if he's not there.

"But he will lead from behind the scenes and he's done that since he's come in. He'll be ready, it's as simple as that."
