PKL: Dabang Delhi captain Naveen to miss remainder of PKL10 due to injury

Dabang Delhi's talismanic captain Naveen Kumar Goyat has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Pro Kabaddi League (PKL10) season due to injury. Naveen has not played since the game against Jaipur Pink Panthers on December 27, when he twisted his right knee and ad to be stretchered off the mat. Already recovering from a wrist injury, Naveen had gone in to raid and twisted his knee while darting across the mat. It brought back the painful memories of last season when Pawan Kumar Sehrawat, then with Tamil Thalaivas, had injured himself in a similar manner and had to miss the entire season.

Rhythm wins India's 16th shooting quota for the Paris Olympics

Indian shooter Rhythm Sangwan has won silver at the Asian Olympic Qualification Rifle/Pistol event in Jakarta in the 25m pistol and clinched India's 16th quota for the Paris Olympics. This marks India's most-ever quotas won for a single edition of the Olympics - the previous best was 15 ahead of the Tokyo Games.

This comes a day after India's air rifle shooters enjoyed a hugely successful day on Wednesday. There was a double podium in the women's 10m air rifle with teenage shooter Nancy won the gold with an Asian junior record score of 252.8 and Elavenil Valarivan finishing second, only 0.1 points behind. In men's air rifle, Rudrankksh Patil had clinched bronze in the individual event, with Arjun Babuta finishing sixth in the final. Malaysia Open: Ashwini and Tanisha claim a big win, move into women's doubles quarters

Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto have scalped a massive win at the Malaysia Open as they've beaten two-time world champions Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara in a little over an hour.

The Indian duo took the opening game 21-19 but were unable to seize the momentum as their Japanese opponents clinched the second game 21-13. It all boiled down to the decider and Ashwini and Tanisha battled their nerves to win 21-15 and notch up one of the biggest wins of their careers.

There will be more Indians in action later today as Kidambi Srikanth will face Ng Ka Long, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty take on the French team of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar.

Wrestling: Aman Sehrawat wins the Zagreb Open

Aman Sehrawat became the first Indian wrestler to win a medal in 2024 as he bagged the top prize at the Zagreb Open late on Wednesday night. The U23 world champion beat China's Zou Wanhao for the title in the 57kg category.

Aman, the reigning Asian Championships gold medallist, led 1-0 at the water break and then produced a series of two-point maneuvers to overpower his third-seeded Chinese opponent, who is also a former bronze medallist at the U23 Worlds. He began his campaign by beating Turkey's Muhammet Karavus via Technical Superiority and then defeated Pan American Games champion Zane Richards in the same manner before easing past Georgia's Roberti Dingashvili in the semifinal. Four bouts, all four won on Technical Superiority.

However, there will be no Indian flag on display, and neither will the Indian national anthem be played when Aman climbs the podium as when as the Wrestling Federation of India continues to be suspended by global body United World Wrestling. All Indian wrestlers will compete as neutral athletes until the suspension is lifted.

Aman made his mark on the senior circuit in 2023 and with the Asian Championships triumph and then followed it up with an Asian Games bronze. He competes in the same weight category as Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Dahiya, who is making a comeback from injury. Aman and Ravi both train at New Delhi's Chhatrasal Stadium - the home of Indian wrestling. The teenager had joined Chhatrasal as a 12-year-old and has shadowed Ravi ever since. Though Ravi is six years his senior, Aman is already regarded as his successor in the 57kg. More on that here.
