Tim Duncan, five-time champion, announces retirement

Five-time champion, Tim Duncan, announced his retirement from basketball on Monday, putting an end to a brilliant 19-year career with the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA.

The 40-year-old player, who was the first pick in the 1997 NBA draft, reached the playoffs in each of his 19 seasons and became the only player to achieve 1,000 victories with one team.

Tim Duncan, two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, is one of three players, along with John Stockton and Kobe Bryant, to spend 19 seasons with a single franchise. He also retires as the all-time leader in points, rebounds, and blocks for the Spurs.

But just like Tim Duncan, other NBA stars have also left a huge void upon retiring in recent years. Recently, Kobe Bryant bid farewell to basketball after a brilliant career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Keep an eye out for several NBA legends who could play their last season in the NBA. 'Manu' Ginobili, Metta World Peace, Kevin Garnett, among other figures, are already advanced in age and could say goodbye to basketball.
