First golf course designed by former world number one Tiger Woods
The Word Wide Technology Championship 2023, the first golf course designed by former world number one Tiger Woods, will take place on November 2-5 at Cardonal, with a prize pool of $8.2 million.
Mike Abott, Sr. VP of Operations at Diamant, was asked about Tiger Woods' involvement with the tournament. He responded by saying, "He has spent a lot of time with the PGA Tour team, thinking about how to better showcase the course and its configuration, knowing where places and things are. So, I know he is involved. My interaction with him over the past year has been fantastic. I mean, he really wants to make the World Wide Technology the best it can be."
Los Cabos will host this tournament for the first time, which has been held in Riviera Maya for 16 years. Despite Hurricane Norma passing through Baja California Sur just a few days ago on October 21, the course was not damaged. "In addition to a lot of debris from the strong winds, we had about four inches of rain. Unfortunately, what was out there were plants, colorful plant life. So, many bougainvilleas and much of our colorful vegetal material collapsed during that time with all this saltwater and the winds. Now, we love the green color because there is so much green out there," said the CEO and Co-Founder of World Wide Technology.
A total of 132 professional golfers will participate in this tournament, including four locals: Isidro Benitez from Puebla, Roberto Diaz from Veracruz, José Cristóbal Islas from Pachuca, and Sebastián Vázquez from Mexico City. By the way, this tournament is the only one in Mexico during the 2023 PGA season.
