With a record time of 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 26 hundredths, Peruvian Kimberly García achieved another gold medal, finishing first in the 20-kilometer race walking, which took place last Sunday in O'Higgins Park, for the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.

Despite the bad weather, she maintained a great pace throughout the race, with a partial time of 36:49 for the first 10 km and 54:37 for the remainder, making her unreachable for the other competitors. This way, she secured the third gold medal for our country.
The national athlete has become one of the great figures worldwide in this athletics discipline. With her double gold medal in the 2022 Eugene World Championships in the 20 and 35 km, plus a silver medal in Budapest in August 2022, García has consistently left a great impression.

Through an official statement, Santiago 2023 announced that the times of the 20 km women's race walking competition have been nullified, as only approximately 17.18 km were run. The order of arrival will be respected, which will disadvantage the Peruvian athletes. Despite that, it is worth noting that both athletes are already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Kimberly García gets her revenge
In these Pan American Games, Kimberly achieved her revenge, as in the previous edition in Lima 2019, the gold medal was taken from her by Colombian Sandra Arenas, leaving the Peruvian with the silver medal.
