Cienciano fights for a spot in the Copa Sudamericana
Despite Cienciano having already lost the option of winning the second half of the Liga 1, this victory is important as they are competing for a spot in the Copa Sudamericana. Additionally, they now have to focus on their next match against Sport Boys on matchday 19 of the Clausura.
Sporting Cristal let three golden points slip away against Cienciano. In an exhilarating match, the Inca team won by the minimum difference in the final minutes with a magnificent goal from Danilo Carando, making things even more difficult for the rimenses in their quest to win the Clausura Tournament.
After the 'Papá's victory, one of those who spoke to the media was coach Oscar Ibáñez, who praised the work done by his players.
"We talked during the week with the guys, that we were going to face the Peruvian team with the highest ball possession, with a very talented squad that had a great need to win here as visitors, and we needed to win to stay alive. Today's results didn't help much, but we have one more life, and let's see what the weekend holds for us," he commented to the Movistar Deportes cameras.
"I must thank the guys who played very well today. They defended with everything when they had to defend. We have a very short squad, we have up to six injured players, four of whom we couldn't line up, but we take it one game at a time and let's see what the weekend holds for us," he added.
Cienciano's upcoming match
For the last round of the Peruvian tournament, Cienciano will face Sport Boys as visitors. The date and time will be confirmed by the Liga 1.
