The President of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), Guido Flores, indicated that athletes who achieve a gold medal at the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023 will receive an economic stimulus of S/ 80,000.

"We are considering giving them an incentive for the medals won, as has happened before, so we have planned to grant them 80,000 soles for each gold medal, 60,000 for silver, and 30,000 for bronze," he said at a press conference.

"There are around 220 athletes who are going to participate in these Pan American Games in Santiago, although that number may vary. The intention is to spread all this and say that the State is supporting the development of athletes with specific programs for the different federations and athletes," added Flores Marchan.

Likewise, the head of the IPD pointed out that Paradeportistas will receive the "same treatment" as conventional athletes, while coaches could receive 50%.

"Coaches are also being considered 50%, while Paradeportistas will receive the same treatment as conventional athletes. We would like to give more, but that is what the State can offer. It should be noted that everything is cumulative, that is, if an athlete wins two gold medals and one silver medal, they will receive 220,000 soles," he declared.

The Peruvian delegation will be composed of approximately 220 athletes, who will compete in 32 disciplines such as swimming, athletics, badminton, boxing, breaking, canoeing, cycling, equestrian sports, climbing, fencing, water skiing, gymnastics, golf, hockey, judo, karate, weightlifting, amateur wrestling, skating, fronton (Basque ball), modern pentathlon, squash, rowing, softball, table tennis, shooting, archery, sailing, and beach volleyball.

"It is the responsibility of IPD to support the entire process of preparation and participation of athletes, and this is done in coordination with the COP. This is a management that aspires to do planned work. From IPD, support goes directly to the athlete, especially in this program 'Towards Santiago 2023'. Beyond the result, which is important, the projection is not only to look at the moment, but at the next Olympic cycle," concluded Guido Flores.
