The forward of the Peruvian National Football Team, Paolo Guerrero, spoke up after scoring a double in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinals, where his team, LDU de Quito, defeated Defensa y Justicia (Argentina) 3-0.
In an interview with DirecTV Sports, the captain of the "blanquirroja" expressed his happiness for his great performance in the "Albo" team's victory, ending a negative streak of eight games without scoring.
"My teammates make everything easier for me. We had a great match, I'm very happy with the result. Winning is always beautiful, especially in a Copa Sudamericana, in these decisive matches. This team puts in sacrifice and dedication [...]. I feel very happy. We have to keep working with our feet on the ground because it's not over yet, it closes in Argentina," he said.
ABOUT THE NEGATIVE STREAK
Furthermore, Guerrero Gonzáles confessed that the goal drought he had been going through made him feel uncomfortable: "I tried to stay calm even though my anxiety wanted to take over. I knew that at some point it would come. The fans want their team to win, for this wonderful club to win," he concluded.
