The Universitario de Deportes team left this morning for Trujillo, for the match they will have against César Vallejo this Thursday, for the 16th round of the Clausura Tournament of Liga 1 Betsson. The players' goal is to add three points, as they must remain among the top in the standings (they have 29 points and are two behind Melgar, the leader of the tournament). However, it will not be an easy task, something that is very clear to Jorge Fossati's team.
One of those who spoke about this commitment was Alex Valera, who stated that "Vallejo is a team that must be respected. We have to go all out, looking for a good result. I think it's going to be a beautiful game." The 'cremas' have 29 points in the table, two behind Melgar; while the 'Poets' have 20 points, although they are within the top eight in the Accumulated.
Regarding the refereeing, which has been questioned throughout the season, the forward was brief and stressed that the idea is for everyone to fulfill their role. "We just have to do the job well, both teams and the referee, and it will be a nice game," he said. It should be noted that the referee Jesús Cartagena will be in charge of directing the match.
Regarding his present in the 'merengue' team, he said, "I am calm and confident of getting a good result. We have to work the game well." It should be noted that to date, Valera has scored 13 goals, so far this season and aims to be one of the club's top scorers this year.
With Fossati in charge
The season is not over yet, but at Universitario de Deportes it is clear that there are no questions about Jorge Fossati's work; that is, they feel that he will continue with the 'crema' hoodie for the Centennial (see note). The reason? In 36 games, the Uruguayan coach has won 21 times, 15 of them at the Monumental stadium and six away from home; numbers that support the work he has with the merengue squad.
Now the challenge is to fight the four games that remain for the team and, with that, bring their players to the top of the championship. The next opponent will be Universidad César Vallejo, whom they will face this Thursday at the Mansiche stadium. Then they will return to Lima to receive UTC. Finally, they will clash against Cusco FC away and Sport Huancayo at home.
