Cruz Azul is experiencing its worst tournament in the last 19 years after eight matchdays. The last time La Máquina accumulated five points before the ninth matchday was in the Clausura 2004, and curiously, they had the same goals scored and conceded as the current team coached by Joaquín Moreno. Additionally, both periods had two different coaches and boasted a South American top scorer, as well as a single victory which was obtained as visitors.

In the history of short tournaments, Cruz Azul has accumulated five points after eight matchdays on three occasions, which has been their worst performance. The first time it happened was in the Clausura 2003, a tournament in which Mario Carrillo and Enrique Meza were in charge, and they managed to reach the playoffs.

The Cruz Azul teams from the Clausura 2004 and the Apertura 2023 had the same number of goals scored and conceded after the first eight matchdays of each tournament, where they accumulated five points. Both squads had scored nine goals and conceded 15, with a record of one win, two draws, and five defeats. Both teams went without a win at home in the first eight matchdays. In fact, they achieved their first victory as visitors. The Cruz Azul team from the Clausura 2004 achieved it in the third matchday with a 0-2 against Atlas at the Jalisco Stadium, while the current team achieved it in the sixth matchday against Monterrey, with a 1-2 at the BBVA Stadium.

The Cruz Azul team from the Clausura 2004 had Marcelo Delgado as their top scorer, who had scored six of the nine goals, while the current Cruz Azul team has Diber Cambindo, another South American, as their main goal scorer, with a total of four goals.

Just like in the Apertura 2023, Cruz Azul also had two coaches 19 years ago. However, Luis Fernando Tena replaced Enrique Meza in the eighth matchday, unlike the current tournament where Joaquín Moreno replaced Ricardo 'Tuca' Ferretti after three games.

In the Clausura 2004, Cruz Azul, under the guidance of Luis Fernando Tena, recovered in the second half of the tournament and managed to reach the playoffs, where they were eliminated by Pumas in the semifinals.

The current Cruz Azul has climbed two positions in the general table since Joaquín Moreno took charge and is six points away from the qualification zone.
