Football Match between Peru and Chile

The Peruvian National Football Team is preparing to face their counterparts from Chile and Argentina in the upcoming dates of the South American Qualifiers in October. However, the condition of the stadium's turf where one of these matches will take place has sparked a controversial debate.

The Monumental Stadium of Colo Colo, the venue for the Peru vs. Chile match in Santiago, has recently been used for concerts, which has forced the maintenance teams to carry out refurbishments on the turf to ensure it is in optimal condition for the match.

CRITICISM ON THE STATE OF THE TURF

Recently, images of the condition of the turf have been circulating and have raised concerns among players, coaching staff, and football fans. One of the voices that stood out the most was that of former Chilean World Cup player Mauricio Padilla, who expressed his thoughts on the matter during the sports program ESPN 360.

"That pitch is very dangerous. It was completely replaced once, and three weeks later the tournament started. There were three cruciate ligament injuries because they do indeed place external patches of grass that take a long time to compact. This interferes with the players' movements, putting ankles and knees at risk", explained Padilla.

The former footballer supported the Colombian national team's decision to file a complaint. "It is unacceptable to receive a qualifying match with this horrendous pitch. It is truly a lack of respect for our football, but it is a reflection of the state of our league," he detailed.

The match between Peru and Chile will take place on Thursday, September 12th, starting at 19:00 hours in Peru, at the aforementioned stadium. Both teams will be seeking victory to advance in the tournament's standings.

It is important to note that neither Peru nor Chile have been able to secure victories in the tournament so far, so they will enter the field motivated and ready to play a great match.
