Guatemalan Players to Compete in US Open Cup Semi-Finals
UNITED STATES --- After being eliminated from the Leagues Cup, the teams Real Salt Lake, where Guatemalan national team player Rubio Rubin plays, and FC Cincinnati, with Arquimides Ordóñez, will resume action this Wednesday as they compete in the semi-finals of the US Open Cup against the Houston Dynamo and Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi.
Since June, the Quarter-Finals have been played, where both clubs managed to defeat their opponents and advance to the semi-finals. In the case of Real Salt Lake, they defeated LA Galaxy with a score of 3-2, with Rubio Rubin as a starter, providing two assists for his team. It is worth mentioning that in that game, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez suffered a torn ACL.
Meanwhile, FC Cincinnati won 3-1 against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Arquimides Ordóñez came in as a substitute in the second half and played for 15 minutes, following his participation with the U-20 Guatemalan National Team in the 2023 World Cup in Argentina.
After two and a half months, the semi-finals of the US Open Cup will be played this Wednesday.
The first game scheduled will be between FC Cincinnati and Inter Miami FC, led by Lionel Messi. The match will take place at TQL Stadium in Ohio starting at 5:00 PM, to determine the first finalist.
Later in the day, Real Salt Lake will face Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium at 7:30 PM to determine the second finalist of the tournament in North American territory.
The U.S. Open Cup is a tournament organized by the United States Soccer Federation and brings together all affiliated professional, amateur, and Major League Soccer clubs.
The 2022 edition was won by Orlando City, who defeated Sacramento Republic 3-0 in the final.
