Last Monday, César Vallejo University drew 1-1 against ADT, for matchday 10 of the Clausura Tournament in Liga 1 Betsson. Undoubtedly, it was a chaotic ending that took place at the Mansiche stadium in Trujillo, after the additional minutes that were granted: Hernán Rengifo scored the tie for ADT and afterwards, Sebastián Abreu was expelled (he hit the VAR screen). Hours later, the 'Poeta' institution - through its social media accounts - issued a statement, announcing that they will request the VAR audios, as well as the removal of FIFA category from referee Augusto Menéndez.
Sebastián Abreu's situation
Sebastián Abreu was expelled from the match between Universidad César Vallejo and ADT, after protesting the validation of Hernán Rengifo's goal in the 9th minute of extra time, when initially only six minutes had been added. However, the controversy does not end there, as the coach -in his anger- hit and broke the VAR screen (see note).
Also, they specified the following: "Given this, for the good of Peruvian football, we request that referee Augusto Menéndez be removed from the FIFA category, since these mistakes have been repetitive throughout the tournament, harming professional clubs and the image of the championship". Finally, they added that "a formal complaint will be filed with the corresponding entities responsible for the supervision and evaluation of refereeing, attaching videos and photos as evidence of the dreadful refereeing endured".
If we talk about numbers, it is necessary to mention that this campaign has not been the one expected by the team and its fans. Since the season started, the 'poetas' have accumulated 10 wins, 8 draws, and 10 losses, occupying the ninth position in the Overall table. In the Clausura, it is worth noting that they have only registered three wins, two draws, and five lost matches, reaching the eleventh position.
