The left-footed shot by Olga Carmona at minute 29 opened the doors of eternity for Spain, the country that currently dominates women's football. With a tight 1-0 victory, the 'Roja' defeated England to win the Women's World Cup and become the only women's national team to be world champion in all categories: in 2022 they won the U-17 and U-20 titles.

And she did it with Carmona as the hero, who after lifting the trophy found out that her father had passed away hours earlier. Ironically, she celebrated her goal by pointing to the sky, dedicating it to the mother of a friend.

The title continues to surprise. First, because the tournament was considered the most level one ever organized: all the teams that were once champions were eliminated before the semifinals. And there was room for surprises like Colombia, which promises a hopeful future led by the talent of Linda Caicedo.

Second, because Spain managed to rise from the ashes. A few months ago, fifteen players resigned from the national team because they did not agree with coach Jorge Vilda, who is now the world champion. Then, twelve of them decided to return and the coach called up three new players: Ona Batlle, Aitana Bonmati, and Mariona Caldentey. That Spain now reigns in women's football is not only thanks to the innate talent of its players or their constant struggles. What Jorge Vilda did shortly before the World Cup was crucial.

Before even announcing the squad, the coach decided to organize a fraternity party. So the locker room went from having some open wounds to being an environment of camaraderie. And then the work began.

Vilda and his coaching staff prepared short but intense training sessions. Exercises in groups. And they emphasized video analysis, to observe flaws and analyze opponents. Today Spain reaps the fruits of a serious work and dominates the world.
