Benfica, the reigning champion of the Portuguese league, conquered the Portuguese Super Cup for the ninth time in its history on Wednesday, defeating Porto 2-0 in Aveiro.
The Lisbon 'Eagles' get off to a good start in the official 2023-2024 season. Their goals were scored in the second half by Argentine Ángel Di María (minute 61) and Croatian Petar Musa (68).
Porto came close to reducing the deficit at the edge of the final whistle, but the goal scored by Brazilian Galeno was disallowed.
Benfica, managed by German Roger Schmidt, won their 38th Portuguese champion title last season.
