Benfica, the reigning champion of the Portuguese league, won the Supercup of Portugal for the ninth time in its history on Wednesday, beating Porto 2-0 in Aveiro. The Lisbon 'Eagles' started the official 2023-2024 season on a good note. Their goals were scored in the second half by Argentine Angel Di Maria (minute 61) and Croatian Petar Musa (68). Porto came close to reducing the deficit towards the end of the match, but the goal by Brazilian Galeno was disallowed. Benfica, coached by German Roger Schmidt, won their 38th Portuguese championship title last season.
