Murphy is not unfamiliar with superhero movies, as he participated in Christopher Nolan's trilogy about the iconic DC Comics hero, Batman. In these films, he took on the role of the 'Scarecrow', one of Batman's greatest enemies in Gotham City.

One of the most remembered curiosities about the actor's participation in this trilogy was that he actually went to the audition seeking the role of Batman, which ultimately went to Christian Bale.
