UNITED STATES -- The Guatemalan National Team and their counterparts from Honduras will play a friendly match on September 3 in Florida, United States. This has been confirmed by the organizing company of the event this Friday.
At the moment, it is the only confirmed preparatory match for the performance of both teams in the group stage of the League A in the Concacaf Nations League, which will award six spots for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024.
The match will take place on Sunday, September 3, starting at 6:00 PM, at the DRV PNK Stadium in the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home of Inter Miami, from the MLS, the home of Argentine star Lionel Messi.
Four days later, Guatemala will host El Salvador at the National Stadium in Group A.
This will be the debut of Colombian coach Reinaldo Rueda leading 'la H', who was recently announced to return as the head coach of the Honduran national team, following the departure of Argentine Diego Martín Vazquéz.
Honduras will make their debut as visitors against Jamaica in Group B on Friday, September 8.
Guatemala is coming off a good performance in the Copa Oro 2023, where they reached the quarterfinals under the guidance of experienced Mexican coach Luis Fernando Tena.
About Copa America
The top two teams from each group in League A will advance to the quarterfinals of the competition where they will face Canada, Mexico, United States, and Costa Rica.
There will be four two-legged ties and the winners will secure a direct spot in the 2024 Copa America. The losers will play a playoff to determine the remaining two spots.
