The boxing legend Muhammad Ali passed away on Friday, June 3 in a hospital in Phoenix, due to a severe respiratory infection. The Sun newspaper published a shocking photograph taken two months before the death of the 74-year-old former boxer.
In the image published by the English media, a heavily deteriorated Muhammad Ali can be seen, due to the Parkinson's disease that had afflicted him for 32 years. This photograph deeply moved the boxer's fans, who expressed their feelings on social media.
Zenon Texeira, author of this photograph, claimed to have "seen the aura" of Muhammad Ali at the moment he captured it. The encounter between the two took place at the former world heavyweight champion's own home.
After the news of his death, thousands of fans have approached the Muhammad Ali Center, a museum and cultural center in Louisville, to pay tribute to the boxer with floral arrangements and messages of affection.
Muhammad Ali will receive an Islamic funeral this Thursday, led by California Imam Zaid Shakir and witnessed by more than 18,000 people. The following day, former US President Bill Clinton and comedian Billy Crystal will dedicate speeches in a second funeral.
