Nahuel Furtado, player from Cerro Largo, spoke on the program "Último al arco" (Radio Sport 890) about how his season is going and how he anticipates the match against Nacional for the seventh round of the Torneo Intermedio. Furtado said that this "has been a good week" for Cerro Largo, since they come from two consecutive victories [against Fénix and Racing], and because "the week before facing a big team is always different". Cerro Largo visits Nacional this Saturday at Gran Parque Central, and for the side player it will be a "very difficult match because they have the obligation to win as Nacional and for playing at their home, and we have to fight for relegation and to get into an international cup".
The football player said that they know that Bolso "comes from a hard hit after losing at home, and that is not normal", but the emotional aspect will be key because it can mean an extra motivation for the home team to get back on track to victory.
The last precedent of Cerro Largo at Gran Parque Central is quite positive, since they obtained a draw, in a match where the arachán goalkeeper, Renzo Bacchia, was sent off in the discount minutes. "It was a very difficult match, but all in all, it is a good result to get an away draw against a big team," he explained. For Furtado, the upcoming game this weekend may be similar to that one due to the moments each team is going through. "Nacional will go out to win from minute zero, we will have to hold on and play a long match. Not only against them, most of the matches we won were because of calmness, playing a long match and having patience, and that's how we achieved several victories in the final minutes. It comes from there, from having patience, holding on, suffering the match at times, and waiting for a chance," he said.
Since Ignacio Ordóñez took over as coach, Cerro Largo has won the two matches they played. "The whole team is very happy with him because we already knew him, we know he is a good person, beyond the professional aspect. He didn't come with many changes, he is simply asking us to try to play a little more and to have more confidence when playing or generating football," said the side player.
He is not the only new face that has been well received in arachanas lands, since in recent days Israeli goalkeeper Tomer Harán joined the trial. Furtado said that "he understands very well, he speaks Spanish very well and he is quite cheerful and funny, he has adapted very well to the group". Harán, who comes after playing in the fourth division in Germany, had a radical change when moving from Berlin to Melo: "It must be difficult, but he took it very well, he is always in a good mood, and he has already shared a barbecue with us and drank mate," narrated the player.
Furtado's good performance has made his name sound in this transfer period for a possible transfer, but the side player said that does not make him nervous at the moment, and that that tranquility is what helps him stay focused and consistent in his performances. "I try not to think about leaving, about rushing to make a decision and wanting to leave already. I am happy here, I am enjoying it and that is the key to having a good performance, to be calm, without despairing to leave. If a concrete possibility arises, I will see it at the right time, but for now I am happy here," he said.
That consistency is seen both from a subjective and an objective perspective, since he has played in all matches of Cerro Largo in the Uruguayan Championship 2023, except for the game against Danubio in the Apertura, where he entered at the 20th minute of the first half. "I think that is the key to how I feel today, to the confidence I have and to how happy I am to be here. Based on minutes played, you gain confidence," he explained.
