LAS VEGAS – UFC on ESPN 49 took place Saturday, and MMA Junkie provided live play-by-play and official results.

UFC on ESPN 49 took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

In the main event, former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm (15-6 MMA, 8-6 UFC) lost to Mayra Bueno Silva (10-2-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC). In the co-feature, rising welterweight star Jack Della Maddalena (14-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) got his fifth straight win when he defeated short-notice opponent Bassil Hafez (8-3-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Ashlee Evans-Smith vs. Ailin Perez

Round 1 – Big combo by Perez connects clean on Evans-Smith. Perez shoots and gets the takedown. Good ground-and-pound by Perez, who’s now in half guard. Perez back to guard. Good shots from Perez here. Three minutes left. Heavy shots by Perez, non-stop! Evans-Smith gets back to her feet briefly, but Perez drags her back down. Perez gets mount! Big shots from Perez. Oh, nasty elbows! Evans-Smith gets back to her feet, but takes a few shots from Perez in the process. Head kick by Perez. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Leg kick by Evans-Smith. Oh, hard body kick by Perez. And Perez gets the takedown with ease. Evans-Smith back up, but Perez has her tied up. Hard knee to the head from clinch. Perez looking extremely dominant. And Perez drags Evans-Smith back to the ground. Perez working from side control. Three minutes left. Nasty elbow by Perez. More elbows by Perez. Complete control here by Perez. Evans-Smith gets up, but she’s now being pressed against the cage. One minute left. Evans-Smith breaks free. Now Evans-Smith presses Perez against the cage. Round 3 – Perez closes the distance and takes down Evans-Smith immediately. Evans-Smith gets up, but she’s being pressed against the cage. Good dirty boxing by Perez. And Perez gets the takedown. Heavy shots from Perez. Three minutes left. Evans-Smith scrambling like crazy, but Perez is winning every scramble. Perez is throwing around Evans-Smith. Two minutes left. Carl Deaton vs. Alexander Munoz

Round 1 – Left hook connects for Deaton. Both these guys throwing heat, but have yet to connect clean. Oh! Munoz wobbles Deaton with an elbow! Deaton quickly recovers. Deaton back to pressing Munoz. Deaton is bleeding from his forehead. Oh! Munoz with a clean left. He’s chasing down Deaton, who seems a bit hurt. Looks like Deaton recovered. Munoz chases down Deaton for the remainder of the round, but neither connect clean.

Round 2 – Same dynamic here, not a ton of volume from either guy, but both throwing with power. Munoz stuns Deaton with a left! It seems Munoz so far has landed the better shots. A jab now wobbles Deaton! Deaton is bleeding from his nose. Munoz is finding his target much more now. Munoz with non-stop pressure here. Deaton is landing some good jabs. Munoz is bleeding from his left eye brow. Close round, but Munoz landed the cleaner shots.

Round 3 – Monster left by Munoz drops Deaton! Munoz all over him with ground-and-pound. Non-stop attack by Munoz. It looks like Deaton has recovered and Munoz has withdrawn the attack a bit. Munoz controlling Deaton here and landing some ground-and-pound. Deaton is bleeding from his face. Munoz controlling Deaton here against the cage. Big slam by Munoz! Deaton back up, but being pressed against the cage. Two minutes left. The action has slowed down a ton. Deaton breaks free and lands a knee to the body. The two throw, but neither connects before the bell rings.

Azat Maksum vs. Tyson Nam

Round 1 – Both fighters a bit hesitant here. Clean boxing here by Nam. Maksum with a few front kicks to the body. Hard leg kick by Nam. Two minutes left. Hard leg kicks by Nam. And Maksum with a good right hand. Another right by Maksum. Two consecutive leg kicks by Nam. These two are connecting often, but not a ton of power. Maksum shoots in the final seconds and gets a briefly takedown. Nam immediately gets up and the bell rings.

Round 2 – Nam comes out a bit more aggressive here. Hard leg kicks by Nam. Oh! A left hook from Maksum wobbles Nam. Nam quickly recovers and begins pressuring Maksum. And Nam with a big right hand. Stiff jab by Nam. Nam with some damage on his face. Two minutes left. Hard leg kick by Nam. Maksum putting the pressure on Nam now. Clean left hand connects for Maksum. Nam is bleeding from his nose. Several leg kicks connect for Nam. The bell rings. Close round.

Round 3 – Good jabs by Maksum. Nam’s left eye is swelling up. Nam with more hard leg kicks. More leg kicks. A series of jabs connects for Maksum. Despite absorbing many leg kicks, Maksum’s movement doesn’t seem compromised. Good right hand by Nam. Two minutes left. Big right for Nam! Nam is getting aggressive, he’s walking down Maksum. Maksum shoots for a takedown, but comes up short. Nam presses Maksum against the cage and lands some short aram shots. Maksum breaks free. Big right hand, then a leg kick by Nam. He’s putting it on Maksum. Nam goes for a takedown, fails, and Maksum ends on top. The bell rings.

Evan Elder vs. Genaro Valdez

Round 1 – Oh! Big right for Elder drops Valdez! Elder goes for a guillotine, while on top, but Valdez slips out and gets back to his feet. The shot seems to have caught Valdez more off balance than hurt him. Good jabs here by Valdez. Elder very hesitant in his striking. Good jabs by Valdez. And a leg kick. Hard jab by Valdez. And a right hand for Valdez. He’s looking sharp on the feet. Hard leg kick by Elder.

Round 2 – A jab from Elder drops Valdez! He gets up immediately. Elder doesn’t rush in to follow up. Hard leg kick by Elder. Nasty body shot by Elder. Elder is taking a big lead here in this second round. Oh! Valdez drops Elder bad! Valdez all over Elder. Elder seems to have recovered. Three minutes left. And an accidental eye poke from Elder pauses the fight. After two minutes, the fight resumes. Hard leg kick by Valdez. Another one. Good jab and leg kick by Elder. Two minutes left. Good right hand by Elder. Valdez with a right hand of his own. Big right by Valdez. Knee to the chin connects for Elder! Elder with a good combo to close out the round.

Round 3 – Elder wobbles Valdez with a jab! Valdez wobbles back and Elder is now pressuring him. Valdez still swinging, still dangerous. Valdez seems to have recovered. A clean right hand connects for Elder. Valdez is bleeding from his left bone cheek. Good combo by Valdez. Leg kick by Valdez. Two minutes left. Big right-hand lands for Elder. Elder is picking apart Valdez in this round. Leg kick by Valdez. They are brawling! What a fight! The bell rings.

Round 1 – Lingo comes out pressuing Costa. Hard leg kick by Costa. Costa connecting well here. More leg kicks by Costa. Good jab by Lingo. Costa is connecting here. Lingo is feeling it. Oh! Nasty body kick by Costa. Lingo is shelling up and hurt. Spinning body kick by Costa. Another body kick by Costa. Lingo is getting worked  here. Another body kick by Costa. Props to Lingo for handing in there, despite absorbing monster body shots. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Left hook lands for Costa. Leg kick from Costa. This fight is all Costa so far. Another body kick by Costa. Lingo with a couple of body kicks. Good jab by Lingo. Costa is staying on the outside, picking apart Lingo with kicks. Three minutes left. It seems Lingo stunned Costa with a jab. Nasty body kick by Costa. Hard left for Costa! Now Lingo backing up. It seems Lingo recovered. Goof left by Lingo! He’s doing much better, but still behind Costa. The round comes to an end.

Round 3 – Man, Lingo’s entire body is red from all these body kicks. Costa is picking apart Lingo. Lingo is moving forward and chasing Costa, but getting picked apart in the process. And Costa takes down Lingo for a change. Lingo is back to his feet, but Costa tying him up. Costa takes the back. He’s looking for the rear-naked choke. Lingo escapes and now Costa is in his guard, working ground-and-pound. Lingo back to his feet, but Costa tying him up against the cage. Costa goes for an anaconda choke, but runs out of time.

Viktoriia Dudakova vs. Istela Nunes

Round 1 – Dudakova looks to counter off Nunes’ early forward pressure and shows good hand speed. Dudakova dives into a low takedown attempt and Nunes goes to post her arm. It bends in a horrifying fashion and it’s broken! The fight is stopped. Nunes on the ground screaming in agony. Unfortunate ending for both, but Dudakova gets the win.

Melsik Baghdasaryan vs. Tucker Lutz

Round 1 – Both men come out with a kick-heavy strategy. Baghdasaryan goes to the body and head while Lutz attacks the body and legs. Lutz starts to work around the job and Baghdasaryan is on the move around the outside using his footwork. Lutz shoots the first takedown of the fight with three minutes left, and he gets Baghdasaryan partially down against the fence. The position stalls for several minutes with no advancement or damage.

MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Lutz.

Round 2 – Baghdasaryan is methodically in picking his early shots out of fear of the takedown. He lands a hard body kick and a left uppercut that staggers Lutz, who is on the retreat. Baghdasaryan chases him with a flying kick and punches but Lutz defends well and appears to fully recover. Baghdasaryan lands a punch to the groin and as the referee tells them to stop he throws a kick to the head that fortunately only grazes Lutz. The fight resumes, and Lutz blasts a body kick. Baghdasaryan fires back with a head kick that just misses then a hard right hand that snaps Lutz’s head back. Lutz fakes a takedown with just over two minutes left but he doesn’t commit to it. Baghdasaryan is picking him apart. Lutz shooting but Baghdasaryan sprawls and halts the takedown. They strike until just over 30 seconds remaining when Lutz gets a takedown, but he can’t do anything with it.

Round 3 – Baghdasaryan pokes Lutz in the eye badly to start the final round and the fight is paused. Lutz is OK and the fight restarts. Baghdasaryan lands another punishing body kick then tags Lutz with a punching combination a few moments later. Lutz clinches and pushes Baghdasaryan up against the fence. He tries to pull out the legs and finally does. He takes the back and tries to threaten with a rear-naked choke, but Baghdasaryan stays composed and spins back up to his feet. He pushes Lutz up against the fence and cracks him to the body with some clinch knees, but then Lutz reverses the position and goes back to a takedown attempt. He gives up on it and holds Baghdasaryan against the fence from a body clinch and time is quickly burning off the clock. Baghdasaryan finally pushes himself free and lands three body kicks in a row. They trade shots in the clinch and Baghdasaryan has the momentum to close the contest.

Terrance McKinney vs. Nazim Sadykhov

Round 1 – Big left hand by McKinney. They lock up against the cage and they start trading positions. McKinney takes down Sadykhov by the cage. Now McKinney takes the back and sinks in the body triangle! Just a minute has gone by. McKinney landing some shots, but mainly looking for rear-naked choke. No damage here, just control from McKinney. Two minutes left. Sadykhov gets out and ends on top with 40 seconds remaining! They scramble and they’re back to their feet. Sadykhov connects with two left hands before he gets pressed against the cage by McKinney. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Hard one, two by Sadykhov! McKinney immediately shoots for a takedown, but after a scramble, ends on bottom. Sadykhov takes the back and sinks in the rear-naked choke! It’s over! McKinney taps.

Chelsea Chandler vs. Norma Dumont

Round 1 – Dumont stuns Chandler, as Chandler engaged. Oh! Huge counter right hand by Dumont! Chandler is rocked. She runs across the octagon and Dumont chases her. Dumont now pressing Chandler against the cage. Chandler breaks free and they’re back to striking. Three minutes left. Chandler walking down Dumont. Good left by Chandler. Chandler presses Dumont against the cage. Dumont reverses the clinch. Now Chandler reverses it. Two minutes left. A lot of cage fighting here. Chandler tries to throw Dumont and ends on bottom. She threw Dumont on top of herself. Dumont landing some ground-and-pound. Dumont controls  till the bell.

Round 2 – It seems Chandler recovered. She’s walking down Dumont. Therse two are trading big shots. Oh, one, two counter by Dumont stuns Chandler. Dumont takes down Chandler. Dumont working from guard, landing ground-and-pound. Chandler is working the high guard and has tried getting to the setup for an armbar, but unable to get anything going. Chandler in complete control here. Chandler gets back to her feet and presses Dumont against the cage. She controls position until the bell.

Round 3 – Chandler comes out aggressive, walking down Dumont. Dumont presses Chandler against the cage. And Chandler gets a takedown! Chandler immediately back to her feet, but pressed against the cage. They break apart. Good left by Chandler! Chandler growing in confidence. And Dumont takes down Chandler. Chandler going for a knee bar! Dumont gets free and now on top on turtle position. Dumont with good shots from top. Dumont moves to side control. One minute left. Dumont back to guard. The bell rings.

These two are trading! Park is bleeding from his right eye. Some big shots by Duraev. Hard leg kick by Duraev Great chin by Park. Good jabs by Park. Duraev keeps connecting with big shots on Park, but Park is eating them well while also working his jab. Park catches a kick, they scramble, and Park sinks in a guillotine choke! It’s super tight! Duraev is fighting. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Good jabs by Park. Duraev shoots and gets the takedown by the cage. Duraev holds Park for a little, but he gets back up. Three minutes left. Big right-hand stuns Park. What a chin on Park. Park with non-stop pressure here: Eating shots and working the guard. Duraev seems to be fading! A left hook drops Duraev! Park all over him! Park follows im to the ground and gets back mount. He sinks in a rear-naked choke! It looks tight! Duraev is fighting it well. He gets out, but still has his back taken by Park. Another attempt of the rear-naked choke! And he gets it! It’s over!

Ottman Azaitar vs. Francisco Prado

Round 1 –  Prado takes the center of the cage and begins to stalk Azaitar. Prado shoots for a takedown and presses Azaitar against the cage. Azaitar breaks free. Right hand by Azaitar. Pardo tries to clinch Azaitar against the cage and eats an elbow. Good body shot by Azaitar. Good elbows by Azaitar. He’s finding the target now. Two minutes left. Spinning elbow lands for Prado! What a fight. Oh! A spinning elbow drops Azaitar! Prado all over him with ground-and-pound! Azaitar getting mauled! It’s over. What a finish.

Bassil Hafez vs. Jack Della Maddalena

Round 1 – Without even strikes, Hafez shoots for a takedown and gets it. Della Maddalena puts him in a guillotine, but it’s not tight and doesn’t have the body trapped. Hafez gets out. Della Maddalena gets to his feet but being pressed against the cage. Della Maddalena breaks free. Oh! They trade big shots! Hafez shoots for a takedown and gets it. He controls Della Maddalena from side control. Della Maddalena gets back to his feet. A couple of shots stun Hafez. Hafez shoots again and presses Della Maddalena against the cage. Hafez lands a hook on the break. Big left for Hafez! Hafez gets another takedown. Hafez locks an arm triangle but runs out of time. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Immediately, Hafez attempts a takedown, but comes up short. Big left lands for Hafez. Della Maddalena connects as well.
