During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Government of Peru authorized the release of funds from the pension system, thus granting workers the freedom to withdraw a specific amount of their money in stages. Although COVID-19 has passed, the country is experiencing an economic crisis reflected in the increase in the price of essential goods. Therefore, there is a renewed push for the withdrawal of funds from the AFP, and in this article, you will learn about the progress of the request made by the authorities.
What is the function of the AFP?
The Administradoras de Fondos de Pensiones (AFP) have as their main mission to supervise the funds of the affiliated individuals, who regularly contribute a percentage of their salary to ensure compensation that provides them with a dignified old age when they retire.
Retiro AFP 2023: What proposals have been presented for the withdrawal?
Currently, there are 10 bills in Congress requesting to allow affiliates to access their funds. Seven of the proposals indicate the population's need due to the increase in the cost of the basic family basket, and three of them indicate that with this withdrawal, people will be able to pay off debts.
How is the Retiro AFP 2023 in Peru going?
Despite efforts to maintain the economy in the country, this has not been possible due to various factors. That is why Podemos congresswoman Digna Calle presented a bill proposing a new withdrawal of funds for affiliate members of the system.
The legislator proposes what the amount of each of the bills presented in Congress should be. Even some of these money releases are conditioned to specific uses.

So if you plan to buy a house or apartment, you can ask about this option to not rely completely on your savings.

Why haven't the projects proposing the AFP withdrawal in 2023 been approved yet?
One of the reasons is that the Commission on Economy, Banking, Finance, and Financial Intelligence of Congress, chaired by Fuerza Popular congresswoman Rosangella Barbarán, must include it in the agenda so that she and her team can analyze each of the projects, and so far, this has not been done.
