Nacional announced an initiative to honor José Fuentes in which all tricolor fans who attend this Wednesday night at the Gran Parque Central to watch the match against Plaza Colonia for the fourth round of the Serie B del Torneo Intermedio can participate.
The Uruguayan club reported that, following the death of their president Fuentes early Saturday morning (which led to the postponement of the match against Plaza that was scheduled for Sunday), they invite all their fans to bring a white flower to throw onto the field when the team coached by Álvaro Gutiérrez comes out.
"We will honor José Fuentes from every point of the Gran Parque Central. At each access point, there will be volunteers to receive the flowers from the fans," said Nacional, an institution that last Sunday opened the doors of its headquarters where the wake for Fuentes took place.
In addition to being the first time that Nacional physically lost a sitting president in its history, Fuentes was the fifth person to be waked at the club's social headquarters; previously, only Dante Iocco, Roberto Laplazote, Diego Rodríguez, and Diego Posadas had been waked there (for example, in the case of Morro Santiago García and Rosa Luna, the funeral processions for both passed through the 8 de octubre headquarters, but neither wake was held at the Nacional headquarters).
Tomorrow we will honor José Fuentes from every point of the Gran Parque Central.
We invite everyone to bring a white flower to throw onto the field when the Decano comes out.
