THE Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP but now to be known as LaLiga) have emitted a comuniqué claiming that they have received offers superior to that of Telefonica’s for the international audio-visual exploitation of LaLiga. Tebas, LaLiga president qualified that the offer from Telefonica, revealed by AS to be a figure of 1.350 million euro over a three period is “insufficient” (the Mediapro bid which was earlier tabled, is reportedly to be in the region of 400 million euro per year). What has yet to be resolved is who or whom (LaLiga are keen to avoid a monopoly) will pay this figure of 600 million per year. The communiqué continues, stating that they anticipate that the sale of the domestic rights will establish a new record and this is one of the factors that have seen them push ahead with a decentralized deal for the 2015-16 season and not the subsequent 2016-17 season as was the initial intention.
The LaLiga communique :
Regarding the centralised sale of LaLiga teams' audio-visual rights
“After the bidding process carried out in the international audio-visual rights market, LaLiga wants to highlight that the total amount obtained will be approximately 600 million euro per season, which constitutes an important increase.
Regarding the national market, in the public bidding process that is going to be carried out over the next weeks, LaLiga hopes to reach a considerable quantity which will be a record for the payment of clubs’ and sports limited companies’ audio-visual rights.
All of the above proves the importance of the decision to activate the centralised sale of audio-visual rights of the teams in LaLiga, as well as the anticipation of the same in the 2015/16 season”.
