Agustín Álvarez Martínez suffers ACL injury

In a Sassuolo training session, Agustín Álvarez Martínez suffered a torn ACL in one of his knees.

As a result, the former Peñarol striker will have a recovery period of six to eight months once he undergoes surgery.

The Uruguayan player was transferred from Peñarol to Sassuolo in June of last year, in what became the most expensive transfer in Uruguayan football history. However, in his first season in Italian football, he failed to establish himself as a regular starter.

The transfer fee was €12 million plus 20% of any future profit earned from Álvarez's sale, making it the most expensive transfer in Uruguayan football history. The finalized amount is €1 million more than what was being negotiated in recent days.

This amount will have deductions for the player's percentage (20%), as well as the agent's and intermediary's percentages.

It's worth noting that in April 2021, Peñarol extended Álvarez's contract for three years with a record buyout clause of $20 million.

In Italy, he played 23 games (22 in the Italian league, in 34 matches played) and only scored three goals.

He has not scored a goal since September of last year.

Message from Suárez

On Saturday, Canario Álvarez, who had just celebrated his birthday, received a message from Luis Suárez on his Instagram.

"Stay strong, my friend! Come back stronger," wrote the Gremio player, who shared part of the process with him under Óscar Tabárez in the Uruguayan national team.

And he ended with: "Let's go, @canarioalvarez19!"
