Alvarez Sets Sights on Bivol for Next Fight

It has been two weeks since Saul Alvarez defeated John Ryder in Guadalajara, so it is still in an early stage to plan his next fight on the eve of the country's independence holidays in September. In that sense, the undisputed super middleweight champion has a boxer in sight: Dmitry Bivol.

However, this will only happen if the talks go well and as long as the Russian boxer does not ask for more than what Canelo considers fair in monetary terms, as that would delay a hypothetical rematch.

"Obviously, my goal is the rematch with Bivol, but we will see how he behaves as well, because there are times when one is just turning there and they start wanting more than they deserve, so the negotiations start to get complicated," Canelo admitted in a press conference for his participation in the No Golf No Life tournament at the Bosque Real golf club in Huixquilucan, State of Mexico.

"My goal is the rematch with Bivol, but I am open to all interesting fights," Canelo said about what lies ahead in his career; he emphasizes that he likes patience and adrenaline both in boxing and golf.

In that sense, he made it clear that he is not closing himself off to the possibility of fighting Bivol again, who holds the World Boxing Association's light heavyweight title, as there are other opponents who could be attractive to face and that, in his opinion, will catch the public's attention.

"But in the end, there are many interesting fights that I am not closed off to, I would love to make the most interesting one for the fans and obviously for my career as well," the Guadalajara native pointed out.

For now, he made it clear that boxing has not been a topic of discussion during this recovery time, but he did say that it is highly likely that there will be more news about what is to come in his career.

"Right now, we took two weeks off, we haven't talked about boxing. Next week we will already have something concrete, a path to follow," he assured.

It was on May 7, 2022, that Canelo and Bivol faced each other at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in a fight known as "Legacy is Earned". Just over a year ago, the Russian boxer won after 12 rounds by unanimous decision (115-113, 115-113, 115-113), which sparked Canelo's interest in a rematch.
