Alliance Atlético is not living a good present in the Liga 1: they have gone seven games without a win and in the last few hours, the management would have made the decision to end the process of coach Carlos Desio. Despite this, and the numbers they have accumulated at Universitario de Deportes, José Carvallo is not confident: the '1' of the cream team talked about the importance of Sunday's match in Sullana, the fight with Alliance Lima for the Torneo Apertura, and the chance of the Peruvian National Team playing at the Monumental stadium in the upcoming Qualifiers.
"It's a very important match for us, we are completely focused on Sullana, who played yesterday (lost 5-2 against Cienciano) and it's going to be a tough match, but we have been preparing well. I said it before, all the opponents that face 'U' give it their all, and we are aware of that. It will be a difficult match, in their field, but we have the goal of playing our game and winning with our resources," said the '1' at a press conference held at Campo Mar.
Regarding the fight with Alliance Lima for the Torneo Apertura, José Carvallo mentioned: "We are not thinking about facing Alliance, there will be a derby on another occasion. We cannot think about Alliance, because we have to think about Alliance Atlético de Sullana, because they are our current opponent. Because if we don't win on Sunday, it's useless."
He also referred to the different realities that Universitario de Deportes and 'Vendaval' live; for example, 'U' is currently second in the Liga 1, with 28 points (they have also been unbeaten in the 'Jorge Fossati era' for 12 games); while the northern team is in 13th position, with 16 points. For the goalkeeper, there will be no advantage, because each game is a different story.
"We definitely don't believe that we have an advantage at all. It will be an equal and difficult match. I faced U at some point, and you always give that extra effort, even if you are not doing well. We don't focus on that and for us, we are going to face the best Alliance Atlético de Sullana," he stated.
On the other hand, in recent days, Juan Reynoso referred to the possibility of the Peruvian National Team playing at the cream team's stadium for the Qualifiers. This is what José Carvallo said: "The Monumental stadium is a beautiful stadium, for me the best of all. If we can play at the Monumental, great. The times the national team has played there, I don't think there would be a problem for any player. But in the end, it will be decided by the executives."
