In addition to the Negreira case scandal, Barcelona is facing a new controversy that has cost them a payment of 15.7 million euros to Tax Authority for alleged irregularities in payments and concessions to players, as revealed by El Confidencial.
The fine was the result of an investigation opened by the tax agency that reviewed anomalies in the payments made by the blaugrana team to a couple of players who are no longer part of the club.
This investigation, although it started in 2019, looked into evidence dating back to 2015, during the mandates of the Gestora Commission and Josep Maria Bartomeu.
What did Barcelona do?
According to the mentioned source, these irregularities occurred as a result of incorrect accounting of the compensation payments received by Arda Turan and Alex Song when they left the club; the retired Turkish player received 1,312,500 euros, while the Cameroonian player received 3.5 million.
The investigation also included the loan of luxury Audi cars to all members of the team, as well as the non-declaration of payment for charter flights for their players.
