The former Argentine forward put an end to his professional football career, with Universitario de Deportes being one of the clubs he thanked after making the decision.

On August 22, 2018, Universitario de Deportes caught the attention of football lovers, after announcing the arrival of Germán Denis as their new reinforcement for a merengue team that was not doing well in the local championship (it was part of the bottom half of the standings and was fighting to stay away from the relegation zone). Amidst this scenario, the 'Tank' not only brought experience, but also earned a place in the heart of the cream fan through effort and goals.

One full year (half of the 2018 season and the other half at the beginning of 2019) was enough for the former football player to fall in love with the colors of one of the most successful and popular teams in the country. This was evidenced in an Instagram story shared by the Argentine, after confirming that he will hang up his boots.

"Thank you, cremas. The best memories, always. And go U," accompanied Germán Denis a post that revived three of his celebrations with Universitario de Deportes. Immediately, it generated thousands of positive responses from the student fans.

It is worth mentioning that the former forward played 30 matches with the cream team, scoring 16 goals throughout his time in the Liga 1, becoming the main offensive reference of a team that managed to find a second wind in that season and came close to the Copa Sudamericana qualification zone. After his spell at the cream institution, he joined Reggina in Italy.

Universitario prepares for their match against Alianza Atlético

For this match, Alianza Atlético comes with a streak of five games without a win. In fact, their last match against ADT in Sullana ended in a 1-1 draw (the Franco Navarro's team equalized at the last minute thanks to a goal from Hernán Rengifo). The 'Vendaval' is currently in 12th position in the standings, with 16 points from twelve matches (four wins, four draws, and four losses).

In the case of Universitario de Deportes, Jorge Fossati has managed to lead the team to compete for the Torneo Apertura title, although it is worth noting that the team did not play on matchday 15 (they had a rest) and they only have one match left from matchday 2 (against 'churres') to complete their schedule of matches.
