Los Ángeles FC de Carlos Vela crushes Union de Filadelfia 3-0 to reach the final of the Concacaf Champions League
Timothy Tillman, Mahala Opoku, and Denis Bouanga scored the goals as Los Angeles FC defeated Union de Filadelfia 3-0 on Tuesday to advance to the final of the Concacaf Champions League.
The Los Angeles team once again inflicted a bitter defeat on the club they beat on penalties in the last MLS final to claim their first ever title in their history.
With a global score of 4-1, LAFC will face a Mexican rival as MLS seeks to be the regional champion for the second consecutive time.
Last year, the Sounders from Seattle defeated the Pumas in the final series, breaking a streak of consecutive championships by Mexican clubs dating back to 2007.
Tigres and León are the Mexican clubs that clash on Wednesday in the other semifinal. The first leg ended in a 2-1 victory for Tigres, who will be the visitors in the rematch.
LAFC reached the final of the Champions League in 2020, when they were defeated by Tigres. Tillman opened the scoring in the 13th minute, following a corner kick taken by the Mexican Carlos Vela and a rebound in the area.
Philadelphia was reduced to 10 men in the 59th minute when Olivier Mbaizo was sent off for a second yellow card after committing a foul.
Opoku, who entered as a substitute in the second half, practically settled the match with a left-footed shot in the 82nd minute. Bouanga sealed the victory in the 90th minute.
