The Canelo Álvarez vs John Ryder Pre-match
The pre-match between Mexican Canelo Álvarez and British John Ryder has been marked by mutual respect between both boxers; they have exchanged nothing but compliments and none of them has dedicated to denigrate the other. But this situation has not been the same with other rivals of the Mexican boxer, as there have even been strong threats.
Who did Canelo Álvarez threaten?
A couple of years ago, in an interview with In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Saúl Álvarez talked about Gennady Golovkin, whom he bears or at least used to bear a deep resentment towards, after the Kazakh took advantage of the situation he had suffered with his positive test for clenbuterol to label him disloyal and cheater.
"I had a few difficult months because I was accused of something that wasn't doping, a very low percentage, all the meat here has clenbuterol, but that's not doping," Canelo recalled. "It was very difficult, but in my mind I always said ‘I just have to beat this ****, I just have to win’".
"I'm going to kick his **** mother", he said. "I have never disrespected my opponents, but he is one of the people I have most wanted to cut off his head".
What happened next with Canelo and Golovkin?
After a first episode that marked their rivalry, in which a controversial draw was declared, Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin stepped into the ring again in 2018, where the Mexican achieved his goal and dethroned his opponent in a decisive manner.
The most recent episode that marked the end of this duel occurred just last year, when Álvarez Barragán won the third and final episode in a fight that wasn't as spectacular as the two previous ones.
