We don’t think we’ll ever be surprised by anything Valtteri Bottas said or does – this is his world, and we’re just all living in it. Before complete world domination, he’s starting with something simpler. Buying a race track. We say ‘simple’ like we could put our pennies together and just buy a circuit but anyway…

The KymiRing circuit in Finland, Bottas’ home country, is up for sale, and Valtteri has confirmed that he is in talks with other investors to take over the track, as quoted by Finland’s Ilta-Sanomat.

The circuit itself was built to meet both Formula 1 and MotoGP specifications, and it was planned to be the first circuit in Finland to hold an FIA Grade 1 licence. In 2017, the Kymi Ring circuit signed a five-year contract with MotoGP and the Finnish Grand Prix was supposed to be on the 2020 MotoGP calendar but was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was also on the 2021 calendar but was later postponed to 2022, before being removed from the calendar entirely. Ongoing financial troubles and incomplete construction resulted in other series pulling their races too, and it eventually went into administration.

It has 18 turns, it’s 4,650km in length and can host over 100,000 fans around the track.

We’d love to see if Valtteri Bottas could turn it around. We can see it now – coffee vendors around every corner, a shop that sells mullet wigs and flip flops, and every spectator announcement must start with ‘to whom it may concern’. We would definitely attend 🙌

What a great investment it could be for Bottas!
