River Plate defeated Independiente 2-0 at home on Sunday in one of the most popular derbies in Argentine football and maintained the top spot in the Liga Profesional. The goals in the match played at the Monumental stadium in front of 83,000 fans were scored by Esequiel Barco and Colombian Miguel Borja in the 17th and 80th minutes, respectively. Independiente was reduced to ten men in the 61st minute after the expulsion of Damián Pérez, who received a red card for a foul on Ignacio Fernández.
