The right-handed pitcher of the Monterrey Sultans, Darian Carrera, was signed by the Houston Astros organization, which could be the first step towards Major League Baseball.
The 18-year-old pitcher is the younger brother of infielder Gilberto Carrera and left-handed pitcher Faustino Carrera.
The player's father, Gilberto Adrián Carrera, the sports director of Monterrey, Miguel Flores, and the Astros scout, Miguel Pintor, were present during the contract protocol.
The director of the "Fantasmas Grises" highlighted that the Houston team has opened its doors to players like José Urquidy, Jaime Meléndez, and José Luis Robledo.
"We are very happy to see another young man leave for baseball in the United States. Children grow up with that goal, with the dream of reaching the Major Leagues and well, this is the first step for Darian," said Miguel Flores.
"Thanks to the opportunity given by the Houston Astros and well, as I mentioned, he will try to follow in Urquidy's footsteps who also came out of this organization, we saw him grow and why not see Darian succeed in the Major Leagues in a few years."
