The Manchester United announced on Friday that their Argentine central defender, Lisandro Martinez, has suffered a fractured metatarsal, which occurred on Thursday in the Europa League match against Sevilla (2-2) and will miss the rest of the season.
Martinez injured himself in the 86th minute of the match and was taken off the field by his teammates in the Argentine national team and rivals Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna.
His defensive partner, Raphael Varane, also suffered an injury and will be out for "several weeks".
The loss of their two starting central defenders is a major blow for United's coach Erik ten Hag, whose team still needs to secure a spot in the upcoming Champions League and try to win a title.
