Jefferson Farfán retired from Alianza Lima after winning the national championship (2021-2022) due to the worsening of his right knee injury that kept him out of the game for almost the entire previous season in Liga 1 and Copa Libertadores.

However, the 'Foquita' played a crucial role with his goals in winning the 2021 season title. With four goals in 14 games, Farfán was a key player for coach Carlos Bustos in the local championship. Despite his injury, the former Lokomotiv Moscow player showed off on the field.

Precisely, Farfán recalled on his Instagram account the time he left Omar Merlo, the former Argentine defender of Sporting Cristal, in embarrassment during the final of Liga 1 held at the Estadio Nacional in 2021.

In that match, Farfán escaped Merlo's mark with a knee self-pass that thrilled Alianza Lima fans at the José Díaz Colosseum. "And this was without a knee," wrote the 38-year-old former player.

According to the Transfermarkt portal, Jefferson Farfán was worth 18 million euros in mid-June 2011 when he played for Schalke 04 in Germany.
