Christian Cueva makes his return to Peru to reinforce Alianza Lima
This season, Christian Cueva surprised everyone by returning to Peru to reinforce the lines of Alianza Lima. The midfielder recently started in the match against Athletico Paranaense in the Copa Libertadores, but failed to show his best version.
The Alianza Lima team failed to score and ended up drawing 0-0 at Matute. After Cueva's performance, Salomón Lerner, a member of the Blanquiazul Foundation, declared to El Comercio about the player's current situation and revealed that he is not currently in his best moment.
"The person we had high hopes of performing better is Christian Cueva. Unfortunately, he is not in good physical condition and has not been positive in the performance that we expected for the Copa Libertadores," he commented.
Furthermore, he respected the fact that 'Chicho' Salas decided to substitute Cueva in the second half to protect the team. "Maybe he needs more training, more physical work, more understanding with his new teammates, but what he did (during the match) was not what we expected. That is why the coach decided to take him off the field and replace him."
Opinion of Lerner about the result against Paranaense
The 'grones' secured one point after their match against the Brazilian team. However, Lerner assured that Alianza Lima had a decent presentation and even had chances to score.
"He lacked a bit of entering the area, shooting more, but he could have achieved a good result. It was a balanced match, with danger in both areas, and we had two opportunities, one for Zanelatto who didn't shoot strongly enough and another for Bryan Reyna, who wanted to go all the way with the goalkeeper," he declared.
